Toshio Murata to Ludwig von Mises Letter, January 6, 1963
Fujisawa-shi, Japan
January 6, 1963
Professor Ludwig von Mises
777 Westend Avenue
New York 25, N. Y., U. S. A.
Dear Professor Mises:
I am delighted to learn that you have been conferred
the Austrian Medal of Honor for Science and the Arts by
the Austrian government. Allow me to congratulate you
on your honor.
Through Miss Bettina Bien I learned that you had not
received my letter of August 30 for some reason or other.
In my last letter I asked your permission to translate
your recent work, The Ultimate Foundation of Economic
Science into Japanese.
I have already got permission from the William Volker
Fund as copyright holder. If you, as author, could give
me permission to translate it into Japanese, I would be
very much obliged.
Judging from my experience in Japan, education of
sound economics should start by teaching sound episte-
mology and methodology in economics. At present I can-
nott tell who will be the publisher and how to finance
it, but in order to discuss with some prospective pub-
lishersI need a manuscript of the translation to show
them. If you could give me permission I would assume
it as permission to produce a manuscript of the trans-
lation. On further details, I would ask your specific
permission.
Please remember me kindly to Mrs. Mises.
Sincerely,
Joshin murata
Toshio Murata
