THE SECOND REPORT FROM TOSHIO MURATA
In April, 1962, I was appointed Instructor, Business Adminis-
tration Course, De partment of Economics, Kanto Gakuin University,
Yokohama. In connection with this, we moved from Koohi to Fuji-
sawa, where I could manage to find a house to let. It being,
however, too small, expensive and inconvenient, I sold my house
and land in Kochi to buy the present site in Yokohama. With
retirement allowance, bank loan, and borrowing from my relatives,
I built a new house and moved here in April, 1963.
Let me state about Kanto Gakuin University. It was found-
ed by the Northern Baptist Mission of the United States about
seventy years ago. Kanto Gakuin has a kindergarten, three primary
schools, two junior high schools, two senior high schools, a com-
mercial and technical high school, a junior college for women, and
a university.
Kanto Gakuin University consists of the De partment of
Theology (Bachelor of Divinity, and Master of Divinity), the
De partment of Economics (Bachelor of Economics and one year's
graduate course), and the De partment of Enginering (Bachelor
of Technology and one year's graduate course). This year
Doctor Course for Theology will be accredited by the Education
Ministry.
The De partment of Economics intends to add Master Course
as soon as there are enough number of qualified professors.
The De partment of Economics has Economics Course and Business
Administration Course. The former has two doctors, but the
latter has no professors with doctor degrees although some of
them are graduates of doctor courses.
In the academic year of 1962, I was assigned to teach
Marketing Analysis, Financial Statements Analysis and Seminar.
At first I was very much disappointed with the arrangement,
because I wanted to teach economics or at least business
economics. Almost two years have been spent to make myself
adjusted to meet the new job.
In 1963, I was assigned to teach Marketing Management,
American Literature on Marketing and Seminar. The number of
students in my class, Marketing Management increased more than
one hundred. The course was originally a second selective,
but my reputation has elevated the course to a first selective
course. This means that students who major business administra-
tion course will consider my class after finishing their basic
courses.
In 1964, I am to teach Marketing Management 14 credits
instead of last year's 2 credits), Americal Literature on Market-
ing (4 credits), and Seminar (4 credits).
