Van Nostrand Company, Inc. 120 Alexander Street Princeton, New Jersey Dear Mr. Johnson: Mrs. Vogel has sent you a letter today entering our order for 2,000 copies of a paperbound edition of Dr. Ludwig von Mises' THE ANTI-CAPITALIST MENTALITY. We are happy to take that quantity, being confident that we can eventually use that many. However, we will not use that quantity in a short period of time I have, therefore, given some thought to writing to two institutions to see whether they would be interested in taking some of the 2,000 copies. The two institutions are the Foundation For Economic Education, Irvington- on-Hudson, New York, and the National Association of Manufacturers, 14 West 49th Street, New York 20 New York. But not yet having done so, I am under the present circumstances inclined to consult with you whether you would be interested in possibly getting a larger order than 2,000 if the FEE wished to take a quantity and if the NAM wished to send out a copy to all its active members. For example, in regard to the NAM, I think a considerable number might be induced to buy 10 to 500 copies a piece for distribution among their executives and other employees. All this, however, is a promotion somewhat outside of our field. And I am somewhat reluctant to explore the situation and operate as outlined without first informing you. If the aforementioned two outlets would take a couple of thousand copies for their purposes, I would like to reduce my order to 1,000 for the time being. However, assuming no activity on your part in accordance with the foregoing, we shall look forward to receiving our 2,000 copies. In the event that the FEE wished to take 500 of those, would you have any objection? And under those circumstances would you have any objection to our writing the NAM?
