Dear Dr von Mises:
As a keen student of economics, I have long admired your philosophy
and its expression in your many books. Recently, for example, I have
read with pleasure Omnipotent Government and Bureaucracy, and am
presently enjoying Theory and History. Some time ago I read your
Planned Chaos and The Anti-Capitalist Mentality. My wife also; in fact
we are both studying Human Action. We also are enthusiastic admirers of
Mr Heny Hazlitt.
Some years ago I obtained an MBA, and it was during these studies
that I began to study economics seriously. Soon I plan to return to
the academic environment to work on a Ph.D in business administration.
I hope I can make some contribution to knowledge and understanding, and
will be able to exert a beneficial influence on younger students.
I just hope we have not run out of time and that we still can
effectively counteract the "liberal" ideology that seems to have swept
nearly all in its path. Somehow we have got to get our youth thinking
again. This will not happen until the right stimulus is provided.
This means we must encourage the growth of true intellectuals to supplant
the frauds who have dominated our colleges and universities. It is
certainly the case that the country has been betrayed by its professors.
And I am dismayed by the Nixon Administration and its total failure
to comprehend the most elementary facets of economics. In truth I have
been sickened by the various measures proposed with great fanfare by the
President and his principal advisors. Why cannot Mr Nixon acquire the
right men to assist and advise him? How can the right men be proposed,
and their talents made known? Surely the President is not indifferent
to you and men of similar stature?
But who are these 'right' men? I would greatly appreciate learning
how I might identify such individuals, wherever they may be in America.
Perhaps there is some source to which you could kindly direct me. I hope,
too, that you would not object if I wrote you from time to time about
the major issues and their practical remedies.
Thanking you in advance, I am
Sincerely yours,
Goog
