Dear Professor Ludwig Von Mises:
This is my third and last letter to
y ou requesting you to please send us, at your earliest convenience
a copy of your book "PLANNING FOR FREEDOM 11 to enable us to display
it at our annual Book Fair for Asian readers, schools, Universities
t he general public and local and Asian Booksellers. Any books
displayed at the exhibit-ion gains Asian- wide publicity and we
only display the works of authors after they are approved by a
special Committee. We also request authors to autograph books
t hey said for display. It seems certain that my previous two
letters addressed to you have gone astray but all the same I am
risking another one.
And may I request you to please let
me have the answer to the following questions:
1. Would you please recommend a really practical and readable book
for the layman on the causes and cure of unemployment. There
is popular demand for books of this type and I would put up to
our Special Book Committee any book you propose on this topic.
However please do let me have the name of the publishers of
the book y ou recommend
2. And would you please recommend a r-eally good and readable
book on the best type of farming that would promote maximum
production-- Would you say Collective or State Farming is
best or would you say privately owned farms? However do pl
recommend the best book you know for laymen( and state the
publishers ) to enable me to put up the matter to our Commi
Needless to add, readers in Asia are very much intereste
books on unemployment and agricultural production as these
economic problems occupy# most of their time.
3. You have the discretion to send us a copy of your classic
ff Human Action = for display - but that is entirely upto you
Only University students would be interested in it and so to
the Libraries. I would gladly try to give it maximum public
Should y-ou be interested, please also cend a paker editi
of your 411 BUREAUE RA cy"
4. It appears that you oppose a middle- of the - road economic
system- that is to say one that combines socialism and
Communism. But, sir, how is it ever possible to have 100 per
Communism or 100 percent Socialism. Isnt the Postal Service,
Street light ing, our museums, Parks, Public Schools and Ho
tals, Railway etc examples of Communism. Would you please clari:
this point for my personal interest and benefit. I am not an
economist myself but while reading one of your books this
referencE particularly raised my curiosity to have your per
sonal views.
I once again write to than k you and please forgive me
for bothering y ou.
Sincerely yours,
P.S. Do send the
