AMERICAN OPINION
An Informal Review
Belmont, Massachusetts 02178
February 4, 1970
Dr. Ludwig von Mises
777 West End Avenue
New York, New York 10025
Dear Dr. von Mises:
It has been quite a few years since my husband and I had the
pleasure of being with you in Boca Raton, Florida, during the
meetings of the National Association of Manufacturers. But we
have spoken and thought of you many times since those occasions,
and always with sincere appreciation of your tremendous work and
always with the wish that more American people could come to under-
stand at least some of the many subjects which you have taught and
on which you have written. I wish that you could write a piece for
American Opinion, for instance, which might give our readers a
bit about inflation, a subject which confuses them all because they
have never gathered a satisfactory background on which they can put
today's mixed- stories.
But I am writing to you now to ask whether you would be willing to
add your name to the list of members of our National Committee of
the Movement To Restore Decency. Enclosed are materials which
give information about the Committee whose purpose is "to restore,
to even brighter luster, the morals, manners, customs, traditions,
and values that have preserved and will improve our civilization. 11
The Movement, which will function through a nationwide network of
ad hoc committees, is sponsored by and given the nationwide support
of
The John Birch Society. Your signature showing your willing-
ness to have us add your name to the list of present members, copy
of which list you will find on Page thirty of the January Bulletin of the
Society, would obligate you to do no work of any kind at any time for
the Committee. Your name would be a tremendous addition to the
list, and would help to influence others who are concerned about the
youth of the country but who have not yet decided to join in the program
in any capacity.
