Dear Professor von Mises:
I beg to acknowledge receipt, with kindest thanks, of the
review article concerning your new book. It was with a great
expectation that I read it: many notes and " underlinings "
now cover the different pages.
Shall I write for a copy of the book to the Foundation ? Did
Dr. Harper inform you on my report regarding the demonstra-
tions that took place in Luxembourg in favor of Hunggry? I
think the Hungarian events and the somewhat strange behavior
of the U. S. are likely to give a new impetus to the movement
for a United Europe : " A quelque chose malheur est bon ! "
If as a lawabiding citizen I was sorry for the turn the events
took in Luxembourg ( " Storming of the Soviet legation " ),
I was however glad to see how most of my students reacted -
I had been influencing them constantly in favor of genuine li-
beralism and they were eager to show in face of Soviet tyranny
that they would even fight to defend their freedom, if neces-
sary.
I plan to write a review article on your new book here in order
to draw the general attention to it. When reading the few pages
in U. S. News and World Report, I found some ideas I had been
working so hard to " discover " for my own work, but they have
been formulated with a much greater ease than I would have
been able to do. So I am looking forward with a great interest
to the " bulk " of the book.
In the meantime, I beg to remain, with best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
i.
