Howard E. Schmidt to Percy Greaves, Jr. Letter, January 9, 1970
January 9, 1970
Dear Percy,
My warmest wish for a happy and productive New Year. Thank
you for your much appreciated Christmas greeting.
It seems only yesterday since our long and most pleasant
discussion amidst the volumes of your fine library. Saturday,
August 9, will always be remembered as the high point of a most
memorable summer. I am looking forward with anticipation to our
next meeting, hopefully this spring or in September, 1970.
Since school began this fall I have had several discussions
with my former students and other interested citizens about a
Mises-Greaves seminar in Seattle. I am pleased to note that we
have made some very tentative plans for such a seminar. Several
of my former students have become outstanding students of the free
market and the works of Ludwig Mises are a constant topic with
them. We have formed a group called Praxeology Northwest for the
purpose of sponsoring a Mises seminar, operating a library, and
promoting praxeology as a key to human understanding.
Now that we are ready to sponsor a seminar may I ask you to
supply me with answers to the following questions:
1.) would Ludwig Mises and his wife be able to fly to
Feemage
Seattle for a one day seminar to be held (Sat.) May 23, 1970,
(Sat.) September 19, or (Sat.) May 2, 1970? This is the
order of our preference. If we held the seminar at the
Washington Plaza Hotel, where he would be staying, would
he be able to give a morning and late afternoon talk?
2.) Would you be able to come on the same date to make
it a Mises-Greaves seminar? If so what compensation would
you require above expenses?
3.) We are interested in a seminar on money and banking
or on the inevitable consequences of socialism. We would
like to select a topic with impact as we are planning on
between 300 and 500 participants.
4.) Would Dr. and Mrs. Mises still come for all expenses
plus $300? Our idea was that they fly in on Friday and
return on the noon flight Sunday. This should assure plenty
of rest as the seminar and all accomodations would be in
the same hotel.
