A. Floyd Romero to Ludwig von Mises Letter, March 16, 1945
A. FLOYD ROMERO
Apartado 2313,
Havana, Cuba.
March 16, 1945.
Dr. Ludwig von Mises,
777 West End Avenue,
New York City 25,
U. S. A.
Admired Dr. von Mises:
I am greatly honored by your kind let-
ter of March 10th and am most grateful for the information
regarding the translation of "Omnipotent Government" and "Bu-
reaucracy", which is really what interests me as I inquired
as a customer and not as a translator. I have friends who
do not speak English and when I read a really important book
in English I generally try to find out whether a Spanish trans-
lation may be expected in order to recommend it to their at-
tention. Spanish is not my mother tongue and the translation
I sent was nothing more than an attempt to make known your
ideas among a small circle of friends interested in economic
problems. Not even the author considers the translation as
particularly good Spanish, but I was interested in circulat-
ing your ideas, which I consider the soundest and most bril-
liant I have read in many years.
I read lately a most interesting review
by Doctor Maestri, whom I do not know personally, of Hayek's
work, but I had no idea that he had reviewed already your own
admirable work. I am most grateful for the dates of "Informa-
ción" and shall obtain copies immediately. I am a great admirer
of Doctor Maestrisnewspaper column.
Please accept the sincerest expres-
sion of my admiration for your splendid works and believe me
Faithfully yours,
Ar Romero
