Sir,
I have been lucky enough to read your book 'The Anti-
Capitalistic Mentality' and I just cannot help my writing
you to tell you what wonderful reading it made.
For years, I have been groping for some expression
as to how I feel about life in the present-day society.
I also was almost slithering on that dangerous path towards
'gelenkte und geordnete Wirtschaft although deep inside
I knew that this cannot be the right thing. The first time
in my life do I find a clear, concise and unbiased explana-
tion of what makes our economy - and our life - really go,
and I thank you sincerely that to this reader you have been
of immense help in putting down thoughts which I in a
nebulous way somehow always found to be correct, but which
through wrong literature, maybe also wrong upbringing etc.
were always depressed.
I also wonder whether I might ask you for some further
information on this subject, viz. I would like to get a real
and thorough background on the liberal outlook. My schooling
consisted of 6 years primary school, 3 years secondary school
and 4 years Mercantile School, so I feel I would have to start
at the very bottom. I however have been in professional life
for almost 20 years and am in fact in constant touch with the
workings of a (not so very free) market, as I am doing the
international trade in Oils and Oilseeds for a small firm
here.
I now would like to study the books, which will give me
a good background on Economics and also on the political side
of liberalism, whereby I also would like to study the works
of the antagonists of liberalsim. Could you give me a guide
as to what books I should read or where I could get a guide
in this connection so that I do not lose time by reading up
on unimportant works? I find myself in such complete unison
with what you say that I feel you are the only man whom I
can ask to put me in the right direction and I would greatly
appreciate if you could give me a few hints as to the choice
of books which I should follow.
If I am imposing on your time, please forget my request
but if you can spare a few minutes, I would be grateful if
you could mention to me a few books I ought to read so that
in my own little way I can arm myself with the necessary
knowledge to be of help to the cause of freedom.
Uneguyger Yours very truly,
