Ludwig von Mises Statement on Giorgio Tagliacozzo, November 10, 1942
Nov 10, 2,1942
What Dr Giorgio Tagliacozzo aims at is a refutation of the
fundamental issues of my theories concerning the scope and the
epistenological principles of economic science . of course as
he does not have a satisfactory command of German and as my two
books concerning those problems are available in German only D
he is familiar with my ideas only as far as they are represented
in nglish books 9 especially in the essay of my distinguished
friend professor L Robbins 9 and in some small articles of mino
written in English .
The problems involved are essential for any approach to
economic matters and are closely linked up with present-day ocon-
omic 9 social and political discussions . A new investigation of
them by a competent scholar would be a very valuable contribution
both to the clearing up of economic thought and to a bettor under-
standing between the various "schools" of economists
Dr. Tagliacozzo is e very well trained economist He is a
brilliant representative of Italian economic and social philosophy ,
and a worthy continuator of the work of t hose eminent Italian
scientists s whom - like Croce and Einandi - not even the unfort
-
unate political conditions of present-day Italy could silence
His hitherho published books and articles give proof of his
excellent capacities There is a in my opinion 9 no doubt that
his character and personality and his ability qualify him for
the proposed study
It would be a regrettable loss for the advance of economic
research , if Dr. Tagliacozzo were hindered from undertaking his
project because of a lack of sufficient funds
