T.
Dr. Giorgio Tagliacozzo
ADVANCED WORK AND RESEARCH
I) - 1929 - GRADUATE SCHOOL OF COOPERATION AND SOCIAL LEGISLATION, ROME.
One year's Graduate Studies on the Cooperative Movement and
Social Legislation.
Thesis: INTORNO AI PRINCIPI TEORICI DELLA COOPERAZIONE (An
Essay on the Theoretical Principles of Cooperation), pp. 25.
Taking as a point of departure M. Pantaleoni's famous article on Cooperation, I
attempted to check pantaleoni s theories with the aid of existing literature on
the subject (Mazzini, Luzzatto, Wollemborg, Gide, Marshall, Pigou, etc.). In
conclusion, I advocated and further elucidated Pigou's approach, based on the gen-
eral principles expressed in his "Economics of Welfare".
II) - 1930 - DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ROME
Teachers: Prof. Riccardo Bachi (Economic Theory); Prof.
Alfredo Niceforo (Statistical Methodology)
Prof. Gennaro Mondaini (Economic History).
Doctor's Thesis: "ECONOMIA E MASSIMO EDONISTICO COLLETTIVO-
Saggio sul problema della massima soddisfazione nella
scienza economica" (Economics and the Collective Hed-
onistic Maximum, An Essay on the Problem of Maximum
Satisfaction in Economic Science), pp. 150.
This is a study of the relationship between economic science and the problem of the
"Collective Hedonistic Maximum" throughout the various stages of economic thought.
The paramount importance of this problem -which is implicity or explicity posed in
all of the various systems-- is demonstrated, and the solution contained in what I
call the "Marshall-Pigou System" is accepted and emphasized.
Grade: This thesis was accepted "cum summa laude".
III) - 1931 - DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ROME,
INSTITUTE OF ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL POLICY.
Teacher: Prof. Rodolfo Benini (General Theory of Economics).
Thesis: SCHEMI TEORICI DI ECONOMIA CORPORATIVA E LORO CRITICA
(A Critical View of Some Schemes of Corporative Economy)pp.71
The theoretical views of several authors concerning a possible interpretation of
"Corporative Economy" were rejected on the basis of their inadequacy as compared
to
the theory of state intervention in economic matters contained in the "Marshall-
Pigou System".
IV) - 1932 - DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ROME-
INSTITUTE OF ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL POLICY'S FELLOWSHIP
FOR ADVANCED STUDIES IN PUBLIC FINANCE.
Teachers: Prof. Alberto De Stefani (Economic and Financial Policy);
Prof. Luigi Amoroso (Mathematical Economics; History of
the Theories of Economic Metaphysics )
Thesis: LA CASSA DEPOSITI E PRESTITI NELLA SUA EVOLUZIONE STORICA
E NELLA FUNZIONE ATTUALE (Evolution and Present Function
of the "Cassa Depositi e Prestiti") pp. 90
