Dear Dr. von Mises:
Mr. H.W. Luhnow, President of the William Volker Fund
in Burlingame, California, has written me in response to
my appeal for financial assistance for the Yale Law School
lecture series, about which we spoke several weeks ago. I
understand he has offered to you, and to Dr. Clarence
Manion and Dr. Felix Morley as well, a guarantee of the ex-
penses incurred by your appearance here plus a nominal
honorarium of $100.
Would you be good enough to let me know if this ar-
rangement is satisfactory to you?
In addition to the two gentlemen besides yourself
named above, Dr. Russell Kirk has consented to participate
with us in this lecture series. Mr. J. Donald Adams of the
New York Times Book Review, has indicated his willingness
to help and has asked me to speak with him early in the
fall. The sixth and final speaker whom we hope to hear
from affirmatively is Senator Harry F. Byrd.
I have not yet been able to compile a list of dates
on which the Law School facilities will be available to us.
I shall do so shortly and submit to you several alterna-
tive dates.
We would like to have available for free distribution
at your lecture, one or two articles or pamphlets written
by you which you feel have some particular value in con-
nection with the topic of your address. We hope also,
with your approval, to have on display copies of two or
three of your books, offering them for sale to the public.
I would appreciate very much a list of the articles and
books you would most prefer to have us procure for the
evening of your lecture.
Some one on our committee will be working on biograph-
ical skectches within the next two or three weeks for the
printed programs and news releases. It is my hope to make
them more human than a rehash of Who's Who, which will
