AMERICAN OPINION
An Informal Review
Belmont, Massachusetts 02178
21 October 1966
Dr. Ludwig von Mises
777 West End Avenue
New York, New York 10025
Dear Dr. Mises:
While speaking this morning with Mr. Robert Love of Wichita, Kansas,
that gentleman detailed to me your recent visit to his city, and the profound
and exciting effect of that visit. He also noted that you spoke of the severe
riots which presaged the coming of the collectivist state under Bismark,
Hitler, Lenin, and Mao.
That is fascinating fare! It makes an editor's blood race with hope. Would
the great von Mises prepare an historical analysis of such riots and draw
parallels with the insurrections now sweeping America? The only way to
know is to ask. Will you do it in 3, 500 words for our January American
Opinion ? The deadline for that one is December fifth. We will pay triple
our normal rate for such an article from Ludwig von Mises; $500.
Do let me know soon that you will do this vital essay.
And, do not miss the excellent feature-length essay by Hans Sennholz on
the Johnson Boom in the November American Opinion. It is a most effective
piece, done in good style, by a man whom we greatly value as a regular
contributor.
Sincerely,
full
