31st January, 1969.
Dear Member,
The Seventeenth General Meeting of our Society was held last
September at Aviemore in Scotland. The 300 Members, guests, wives (and
children) who attended appeared to enjoy the usual mixture of entertain-
ment and intellectual stimulation.
At the AGM the six vacancies on the Board of Directors created
by the loss of Leoni and Villey and the retirement (after 3 years) of
Harris, Kemp, Lutz and Philbrook were filled as follows: Harris as
Secretary, Kemp as Treasurer, and Leduc, Gutowski, Shenoy, Read.
Special Meeting 1969: Venezuela
Following the AGM at Aviemore, the newly elected Board accepted
the offer of Dr. Zuloaga and his Venezuelan colleagues to arrange a Special
Meeting this year at Caracas from Sunday 7th to Saturday 13th September.
The theme for discussion will be "Development: Market or Planning" and two
sessions are being reserved for the discussion of papers in honour of
Bruno Leoni and Daniel Villey. Although we are unlikely to come near the
record attendance in Scotland, our Venezuelan friends are raising special
funds towards the travelling expenses of European Board members, speakers
and perhaps some others to help ensure adequate representation of all
nationalities. Speakers will be approached as soon as the Executive
Committee and the Venezuelan Organising Committee have agreed the list.
General Meeting 1970: Germany
It was also agreed at Aviemore that the next General Meeting
would be held next year in Germany and our new President Gunter Schmölders
has proposed a broad theme of the place of the entrepreneur in the modern
economy and society.
