Dear Member,
The Special Meeting last September at Caracas was enjoyed by
more than 200 participants, despite some trouble with air-conditioning
in the hotel. Since it was not a General Meeting, there was no AGM and
no changes in the Board of Directors.
The Board did, however, hold several business meetings and
decided to admit 35 new members (proposed at Aviemore) and to send all
members of the Society a complimentary copy of Roads to Freedom, which
you may know is a festshrift in honour of our founder president Hayek.
If the publishers live up to their promise you should have received
your copy by Christmas.
General Meeting 1970: Munich
President Schmolders has confirmed that arrangements are in
hand for our next meeting in Munich from Sunday evening 30th August to
Saturday morning 5th September, 1970. The central theme will be "The
Image and Function of the Entrepreneur" and I hope to be able to
circulate further details, including arrangement for booking and guests
before the end of January.
Meetings in 1971 and 1972
For 1972 the Board agreed there should be a General Meeting
held in Switzerland to mark the 25th anniversary of the founding of the
Society at Mont Pelerin in 1947. Preliminary enquiries are proceeding
to see how near to our birthplace we can find suitable hotel accommodation.
For 1971 it was decided that I should explore possibilities
in either Scandinavia, perhaps Sweden, or the USA, preferably in
California. In the latter event, a special rather than a general meeting
would be appropriate.
