Dear Professor Mises:
In the names of Peecy L. Greaves, Jr., I. Hodes, and
Bettina Bien, I was invited to attend the last session
of your seminar. As a matter of fact, I am going to
visit the States again, but it will be as late as in July.
How I wish I could attend this special occasion to express
my heartfelt thanks to all your inspiration to me!
When I first attended your seminar in the fall of 1959,
I had only partial knowledge about your philosophy and
economics. Indeed, one year was too short to understand
the profound meaning of praxeology with perfection, but
Ifcould grasp the right proposition and the right attitude
or method of the theory of human action. I derived such
a fundamental edification from you that the idea propagated
itself in my mind until I camr to realize various aspects
of economics and libertarian philosophy.
As you know, most of the Japanese universites and colleges
have student riots, strikes and violence. First, I thought
this would be the worst time for teaching the sound economics.
On the contrary, it now seems to me that this is one of the
important opportunities to be exploited by us because many
students want to protest against radicals without the means
to refute the fallacies effectively.
Since many students took liberty for granted, they neglected
to review the fundamental meaning of liberty. The situation
has now changed. For examples, some students of Chiba Uni-
versity came over to my home all the way from Chiba (about
two hours and a half's ride). They got information from
some one to the effect that I might have some theories which
reveal the fallacies of socialism.
You have built the edifice of epistemology, methodology and
deductive system of praxeology. It is for us your students
to develop each room so that any explorer of truth may appreciate
the validity of praxeology more easily.
On this special occasion, I wish you a very good health and
happiness for the years to come. Please continue to inspire
us through your lectures and publications.
Yours sincerely,
Joshio Murata
