Lawrence Fertig to Ludwig and Margit von Mises Memorandum 2
Memorandum from LAWRENCE FERTIG
Dear Lu and Margit:
Bertha and I are happy to know that you are up
in the clean pure air of New England instead of
being in smoggy New York. We have had rain, fog and
quite a bit of smog for a few days here and we hope the
weather will change next weekend when we'll have a
lot of visitors at Sands Point for our tennis tournament.
Not too much news here. I had lunch with Harry
the other day. He seems in good spirits (although at
times quite excited and nervous about the current
situation. I guess that's Harry's nature and he cannot
change).
I enclose for your delight an editorial from the
Chicago Tribune which is one of the best I have seen in
a long, long time. I hope it's commented on in the
National Review and other journals.
In the current National Review Bulletin there is
a brief statement comparing the predictions of the
pollsters in the Oregon and California primaries with
the actual results in those two states. The margin of

and Rockefeller's campaign will depend upon the
pollsters' reports in July and August. If the polls
show him far ahead he expects to bludgeon the delegates
into nominating him. I don't think it will happen, but
the report in National Review should be a convincing
argument to the delegates to be aware of the pollsters.
I am quite busy these days working on the dinner
for Leonard Read. The response to our original letter
which asks many of our friends whether they would
